Here we go, just south of Stadtpark as it happens but I'm not actually sure it's a minigolf? There's one listed in Stadtpark but that's not what we're looking at in the third pic. The high rise and crane are what guided me there in the end.
You cannot get Streetview in the Stadtpark, so I was exploring routes there from the local U-bahn. The problem with Germany for this game is the privacy laws resulting in massive blocks of buildings being blurred out and making it very obviously Germany. I was spending time to get full vistas that avoided that tell. I knew one of the flags was bound to be a giveaway but that was some very rapid spotter work by Sam.

After the utter failure of "Alaska or British Columbia" yesterday, we try again to entice Amor's entry into thread.

Despite what it might seem there's actually enough information in the second picture to identify the exact location, but it requires a bit of specialist knowledge (ursus is thinking along the right lines asking about that plaque.)

I've moved about 200 metres/yards away to give you a bit more flavour for the place. The darker building you see slap bang in the middle in the distance is the entrance to the brown brick part of the estate where we started (the road swerves right at that point to lead us to the bridge):

Ha, I did think this one might be right up his street

I should have tagged Amor de Cosmos shouldn't I. First piece of information that might help is that every building in all the pictures so far would have originally had a flat roof when built, the gable roofs (is that the right word?) are all later additions.

Second piece of information: we're just under a mile away from this

And actually we're about a mile from this one as well in the other direction if you're a fan of this sort of thing:

                    You called?

I'm certain it isn't Stevenage (though there are areas on the New Town that were built after I left.) The streets are too wide and houses lack the density of early New Towns. The pit wheel is a clue for sure. Were there mines around Cumbernauld?

Building an estate with flat roofs in Scotland sounds like it's asking for trouble, to my mind.

The same goes for virtually all of the UK, to be fair.

Is that the sea in the background in the fourth pic, do we think?

Hurrah, we've lured Amor in! The estate in the pictures was built a few years after the core of the town if that helps

I think I know roughly where the wheels are, but the estate is proving more problematic!

                              OK, found one wheel

Found another wheel, but a different one to Fuss's two!

That's the wheel I found and it's not that close to the sea.

Heh, I think there's a few of them about! I believe I can put names to both these two, which ought to triangulate the estate, but having no luck thus far.

OK, I'm not getting closer quickly, so here's wheel 2, maybe someone else can home in faster:

Well there are a few former pits about! I just gave you the two closest ones. That other one is on the seafront yes.

That's funny, because the thing you're looking for is almost certainly the first thing google images will bring up if you look for the name of the town (assuming you're in the right town)

Oh. No, it doesn't, at least for me.

I concur with Staphy on wheel 2, anyway. I've drawn a blank on the estate I was in, though, despite several superficially similar buildings and the aforementioned daffs.

I tend to only lurk and play catch-up on this thread, but that glimpse of brutalism in pic 2 gives this one away, if one of the regulars wants to tap it in.
