Same with the 100,000 birthday cards - how many non-essential shopping trips and walks to the post box did they entail?
His promotion does at least allow him to use his military title in civilian life (Major and above only) - up until now he's been breaking the rules, and should have been referred to as Mr Moore. I've been outraged about this on behalf of my late grandfather, Wing Commander D.
Who, I've just this moment realised, would have been 100 tomorrow, had he not died in 1995.

They do it because they can, though and not face any blowback.
Rusbridger has an entire article in the Observer today about trust in journalism and doesn't call any anyone or anything. It's truly like the Black Knight in Holy Grail. To be fair though, he like all the blue ticks currently going "How did we end up with this lot in charge" and ignoring the replies saying "because you spent four years tearing apart the alternative".
