I'm not entirely sure, but I think it might be Captain Tom's birthday today.

I dropped out of this story once Michael Ball started doing duets with him.

The Queen cancelled her birthday cannons as they were 'inappropriate' for the circumstances.

Who made the call to fly aeroplanes over his house? Why? How much did it cost?

...and shouldn't those pilots be staying home, protecting the NHS and saving lives?

Same with the 100,000 birthday cards - how many non-essential shopping trips and walks to the post box did they entail?

His promotion does at least allow him to use his military title in civilian life (Major and above only) - up until now he's been breaking the rules, and should have been referred to as Mr Moore. I've been outraged about this on behalf of my late grandfather, Wing Commander D.

Who, I've just this moment realised, would have been 100 tomorrow, had he not died in 1995.

Did he actually have the fly past? I read it was cancelled.

I'm not sure. I saw fifteen minutes of Breakfast Time this morning and it's all they talked about. I thought the planes were just setting off.

The Standard is a major newspaper? I thought it was a freebie rag that the majority of the country couldn't get hold of even if we wanted to?

Flypasts are awful things, but do they really cost much? Some fuel. Maybe a fair whack of fuel. And that's it.

They do it because they can, though and not face any blowback.

Rusbridger has an entire article in the Observer today about trust in journalism and doesn't call any anyone or anything. It's truly like the Black Knight in Holy Grail. To be fair though, he like all the blue ticks currently going "How did we end up with this lot in charge" and ignoring the replies saying "because you spent four years tearing apart the alternative".
