Has the expression "three quarters" not made it as far as the Pacific coast?

Hadn't noticed that. It is strange.

TBF, it's not the only strange thing in the pitch, which seems to suggest that states should secede non-homogenous parts of their state to neighbouring states. So, maybe middle-Pennsylvania would join West Virginia. Or northwestern Indiana would join Illinois while southern Illinois joins Missouri. If you follow the logic that people in eastern Oregon get outvoted by people in western Oregon and therefore should be in a different state altogether, the end result is going to be a complete reordering of the country.

True, though I assume the headline choice was the Oregonian's, rather than that of the promoters.

This will never happen, of course, but the national political fallout would be interesting, with a Oregon and Washington instantly becoming among the most progressive states in the nation

How are those terms defined, DR?

I suspect nobody has ever walked to Magadan from more than a few miles away. It was the scene of some hellish gulag, wasn't it - winter temperatures massively below zero.

They must have stopped for a ham and cheese roll somewhere along the way, surely.

Strange term, because that's not a straight line, but you could do a much longer uninterrupted route if, say, you walked around all the connected coastlines.

Basically, both cities are connected by an uninterrupted road, which would be impossible along the coastlines.

Fair enough. I thought uninterrupted just meant "not having to walk across the sea".

I guess it's the "two points on the globe with the widest separation that you can still walk between", and then the most sensible walking-only route between them

The relative quality of the word "most" is doing a lot of work there.

I think this map was produced by a consortium of private tram companies. They would have seen it as a way to boost interest in one of their destinations.
