I'm no lawyer, but he was strongly encouraging Flynn to delay the sentencing so he could provide more assistance and Flynn's lawyers seem to have taken the hint. The judge was clearly pissed, even though he walked back some of his earlier comments after the break.

The Judge seemed particularly exercised that a senior govt official was lying to FBI men about his contacts with the Russian ambassador, while sitting in the west wing.

I wonder what would have happened to A National security advisor who was an unregistered foreign Agent, and lying about his contacts with the Russian ambassador in the seventies? A deep hole in some federal prison hellhole? A tragic car accident? Traded to the Russians?

Especially as the unexpected policy reversal came directly after a call by Erdogan.
In other news, Mattis leaving in February and we are back to shutting down the government over the wall.Last edited by ursus arctos; 20-12-2018, 22:34.

"Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defence whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects...."
Ouch. Ouchity, Ouch, Ouch.
A lot of people were surprised when he took this job. It's apparently quite difficult to find two people more radically disimilar in many ways.

So long, Mad Dog, you've done enough already in Syria. Thank you for the carpet bombings, your depleted uranium, your 15 bases and your fake wars on jihadis funded by your local allies and vassals.
GTFO of Syria you colonial cunts, your country is broke.
It's going to be a very happy Christmas north of the Euphrates.
Afghanistan is next:
Trump Orders Big Troop Reduction in Afghanistan
About half of the 14,000 U.S. forces will return home in the coming weeks, the start of a total pullout that could take at least many months

Another neocon freaking out about the US moving to end useless colonial wars that have cost its taxpayers $6 trillion.

Trump, and Republicans tied to Trump are damaged by this. The only people who think that spunking billions on a comedy wall is worth doing are absolute die-hard trumpistes. Anyone even marginally non-lunatic thinks the idea of shutting down government so the President can have his ineffective racist trophy is ridiculous.
I don't think Democrats are particularly harmed because (a) they're not running government, and the incumbent party is always harmed by shutdowns; (b) they've tried to keep government open; (c) nobody expects them to waste cash on this.
