Is it incendiary? Is anything going to change as a result of a few people being told yet again that Cummings is scum?

LARRY BRILLIANT ..., the epidemiologist who helped eradicate smallpox
...did we get good advice from the president of the United States for the first 12 weeks? No. All we got were lies. Saying it’s fake, by saying this is a Democratic hoax. There are still people today who believe that, to their detriment. Speaking as a public health person, this is the most irresponsible act of an elected official that I've ever witnessed in my lifetime.

The emergency train timetables go live tomorrow. Schnapps was a fucking disaster;-
On a conference call to senion reps of the passenger operators, he instructed a Sunday timetable to be put in place. The dropped jaw response was what the fuck was he talking about? Sunday timetables are built around leisure travel and engineering works. Most services dont start up until 0900ish. The only part of passenger demand still there last week was early/ late services and in the peaks, mainly because this was the key worker requirement. Also, engineering work was cancelled? Also, the Sunday timetable us inefficient for train crew requirement, as it has shorter shifts, so was the opposite of a resource level timetable which he was boasting about?
secondly, Schapps dictated that the passenger operators give over paths to container trains to move goods. This time the freight operators pointed out that the arse had fallen out of the container markets, as stuff arriving into them would either have left China and the far east six weeks ago, or Europe in the last couple of days?
On both of these points, Schapps came across as dumb struck and obviously had no plan B. How can the supposed leader of UK transport be so openly clueless about what is going on. And who on earth is briefing him, that misses absolutely fundamental points?
If this is the lead for transport, it really does worry about how shambolic the medical advice is being interpreted and public dictates being issued.

I also think Johnson's support is fairly soft. It's not like Trump in the US where 35% will vote for him even if his actions kill their grandparents.Last edited by Satchmo Distel; 22-03-2020, 10:52.

this does not have parallels with Thatcher.
Plus Sunak is asian, Britain isn't that desperate... Yet.

Dunno. some Asians whose parents came from Kenya and Uganda seem to have attained some tokenist status in the Tory party: culturally white despite not having that skin colour. I don't know enough to put a figure on it but it's certainly possible that they'd elect one in desperate times given that the whites in the party are so inept.
They could also lose a shitload of council seats.

Really struggling not to fall out with a friend of mine who is having a meltdown about the prospect of having to look after her own daughter. Her partner works two days a week in a key worker role (legal support for Covid-19 vaccine researchers), fair enough, but she wants to carry on with her own work during that time (animation). The headteacher at her daughter's school shouted down the phone at her that animation is not essential work and now she's really upset. Frankly, I agree with the headteacher. The only leeway I can give her is that she's also currently pregnant, so maybe her hormones are up shit creek.

Friend of friend's little boy and husband both have Covid-19. Little boy, age 18 months has been in intensive care. He's recovering, but that's shaken me up a bit. I know that no under-10s have died, I didn't realise some needed intensive care treatment for that state of affairs to stay the same.

"Johnson's" tweet today re: Mother's Day seems to me an example of a clear bit of government messaging. It's undermined by the fat that it's the opposite of what he said himself on live TV on Friday, but, you know...
