So that record's gone then. 500 and counting

Apologies, not ...and counting as they have gone off for bad light and the day is over

Sadly he wasn't dropped for being a racist and a perpetrator of domestic violence.

Indeed. Given that TMS are just as happy to employ another racist (Vaughan) as they were Boycott, I'm choosing not listening to them - if only there was a convenient word to use to express that.

Head out for 99 but I'm not sure if that was under pressure from an impending declaration.

Are England going to bat like this in the Ashes? Fun times if so, but could backfire.

Australia were batting until Head got his ton. He just played a bad shot.

Jessop's innings seems the most incongruous given its era, especially as he came in at 7 and only made 13 in the 1st innings.

Yeah, although his reputation was as a hitter. It was considered an extraordinary innings, but if anyone on the England side was to do it, then it would have been him.

                              Balls bowled wasn't always recorded.

Shouldn't Gooch (1990 v India 95 balls) be on there, as that was the record that Crawley broke today?
IIRC it was in the second innings, having scored his 333 in the first (Kapil Dev having thwarted the follow on).

Yes, and you didn't get 6 runs for hitting the ball to the boundary on the full, before 1910. So Jessop would probably have got there a little quicker too.

Yeah, jwdd27, I got that list from Cricinfo and Gooch is not mentioned, but I've seen multiple references to it being in 95 balls.

England have not yet batted 100 overs, and already have the 2nd highest total in this bilateral. Pakistan's 708 took 220 overs (not that slow by the standards of the time, 1987).

                                        Another England collapse then.

All openers make centuries, never happened before in Tests.

At first you think "come on, it must have done", but when you consider it needs a couple of days (cumulative time) it's quite something.

Can't see them avoiding defeat, but great fight from the Windies so far.

England vs Pakistan is probably going to provide a lot more statistics, but probably not much more entertainment.

Another stat of Anderson's greatness is that he has an economy rate of 2.37 on a track where all the other seamers have been mullered.

Apart from the flattest track in the history of flattest tracks what is the point of having times with the close of play about an hour after sundown, For all of England's attacking batting making it a virtual four day test isn't helping either side win it.
