The paper Nef linked to above was what I was trying to link to on the last page, but cocked up.

A friend wrote that unlike those conservative man-babies who're upset that a black woman touched a 200 year old flute they didn't even know existed until 3 days ago, at least she knows how to return government property without getting raided by the FBI.

DeSantis has just said "You loot, we shoot," an old meme of 1960s police chiefs, e.g. attributed to the police chief of Miami, 1967, and maybe Bull Connor.

A story we seem to have missed at the time:

All this fake offend stuff is just white supremacy playing both sides of the argument.

What does Lizzo in her underwear playing the flute really achieve in the grand scheme of things besides entertain white people.

I think she can be a positive role model for larger black women but also be guilty of doing a minstrel act, depending on who's receiving the images. Being a black woman entertainer in a white supremacist culture makes those contradictions inevitable, and is not really her fault. She's just making a living with what she has and trying her best to make the right statements from her perspective, but is inevitably compromised by the stereotypes and sellouts of her genre.

I don't really understand TG's premise. She's an entertainer. Why should she be "trying to achieve" anything other than entertainment? Are we now at a point where every action has to be meaningful?

I didn't read it as TG saying that she should necessarily be trying to achieve anything. Just that she's clearly not achieving any "conquering" of white supremacist culture, which is what the tweet he posted seemed to be claiming.

How can she be a positive role model for larger black women, I don't understand so would like that explained to me?

Lizzo in her underwear playing the flute is entertainment (if that's your thing).

Lizzo playing the flute of a founding father is making a political statement, do you not agree?

Indeed, it is not incumbent on Lizzo to do anything. But all this flute playing is just symbolic nonsense from the Left arm of white supremacy who try and do all this stuff instead of anything tangible.
Then the right wing of white supremacy pretend to be in all a huff about this giving the symbolic gesture an artificial level of importance.
This is a conspiracy of confusion, timewasting and diverting attention away from more meaningful exploits.

The CRT argument is another example which is why I rarely get involved in such conversations on OTF.

Doll studies have shown that many black girls internalize the view that white women are more attractive than black women. They're not encouraged to love their bodies.

I think Lizzo plays a positive role when she says she wants black people to celebrate their beauty.

Contrary to popular belief, most black girls do not look like nor aspire to look like Lizzo,

Why not another black woman who probably resembles more black women in physical appearance and body type like say the Williams sisters?

I think Lizzo plays a positive role when she says she wants black people to celebrate their beauty.
What is beautiful about someone who is double their healthy body weight and getting bigger?
Lizzo is the same height as me and Serena Williams. Although pretty muscular, she is 1.5 times my bodyweight and double Serena's. If she was your wife or sister, you would not be celebrating her, you would be sitting her down and having a serious conversation about her weight and potential health implications on her quality of life.
I sometimes go running with my firemans vest on that weighs 32KG and there is no way lugging all that extra weight around 24/7 isn't going to have a bad effect on your bones, joints and organs.

Lizzo is a creation and is being pushed heavily by white society, especially white women who like the big black mammy figure who they find non-threatening and entertaining. There are many examples of this on breakfast and daytime TV.

And before people start having a go at me and using words like body shaming, you better not be one of the people who were mocking the "chinless" folk on the Queens funerals thread and if you were not, explain why you didn't pull up those who did?

I'm pretty sure that if someone is overweight then sitting them down and having a serious conversation isn't perhaps the best way?

Both my sisters are overweight. This is none of my business.

So are my sisters and i regularly have conversations with them on it. They are nowhere near the size of Lizzo. Also, there is a big difference between being overweight and morbidly obese. And I think the health of your family should be your business. Wouldn't you be having words with them if they smoked 100 ciggies a day or drank a bottle of whiskey every other day?

It was to do with comments after someone posted a picture of a bunch of posh people milling around the gates of Buckingham palace when the Queen died.

That underwear shot is taken from a lizzo concert. Not really somewhere I'd go to meet klamsmen. She wasn't dressed like at the official concert. The reason they got her to do that was because she's one of the relatively few people who could put on a concert with 250 year old flutes, because they're completely different to modern concert flutes, to the point of effectively being a different instrument. She's really good at the flute.
