Seems like a decent kid from their Facebook (which I have recently binned) posts.

Lorne is 100% Canada only, I think, as is Gord. I know a few Gordon's over age 60, but no Gords or Gordies.

And, of course, there's the hockey style of diminutives. I don't know if that's just hockey or a Canadian thing.

Dewey Crowe wants to know if Dewey Crowe died for nuthin'.

And, yeah, the character list of Justified might well give much nourishment to this thread.

                      Blair also seems mainly Canadian

There was (Clement) Blair Peach, who was a New Zealander.

I know a female Lorn and a male Lorne - both of Scots heritage. Maybe some links to Canada there though?

For a short time in my primary school there was a kid called Clint Westwood.

                            Milt could be an example.

That must be where it comes from.

                                  Short for Milton, surely?

Two Lornes in my school in Rochdale in the '80s. I also know a Gordy which is close..

Chester and Chesley (which becomes Chummy). The latter was the name of a Bermudian relative, but seems to come from more of an American influence, than the traditional British of 1940s Bermuda..

I used to play football with a Lorne from Stockton. He was a Jackie to his brother's Bobby.

You see far more usage of Jeff or Jeffrey than Geoff or Geoffrey in the States. Are there any Brits who go by the former?

The US goes big on dynastic suffixes (like Jr., III, etc,), and derived from John Q. Citizen III is Trip or Trey.

Loads, I would think. Jeff Stelling, for a start.

As already mentioned, Chas/Chaz is reasonably common as short for Charles in the UK. Chaz Jenkel (most famously of the Blockheads) is another high profile one.

The cast of Gossip Girl is a real treasure trove for this stuff: we've got Blake, Leighton and Taylor used as girl's names, and Penn and Chace for the boys.
