I'm sure this is old news, but why does a no ball give you a free hit? A no ball is a great bonus for the batting side anyway - a free run, another ball with the bowler under more pressure - the free hit seems massively disproportionate. Unless a team was using no balls to intimidate the batsmen with bouncers etc, but batsmen these days would surely not be arsed. Adding one to the total is a small but significant body blow to the fielding side.
