I have no words. It's been bad before, but this is a complete and utter humiliation. Fair play to Northeast and Cooke though. We'd struggle against most minor counties at present and probably deserve to be labelled as such.

Your bowling is pretty dreadful, it's true. Wright is fine, and Parkinson isn't bad, but the rest isn't up to it. Perhaps you can pick someone up from SACA. The batting is ok really.

The batting is OK while Mulder and Ackermann are there, but wouldn't blame them for leaving at the end of the season. Parkinson isn't a captain and his bowling has suffered, Wright us OK but his no-ball record is abysmal. The bowling coach is Alfonso Thomas which might be good for the T20 bowlers but certainly has been found wanting for the longer format.

Cider is helping with the pain.

There's something wrong with the club though, you'd have beaten us earlier in the season but for run outs and no balls. And if you'd caught Cooke, as you should have done, when he was in single figures then none of this happens. I guess when losing is what you're accustomed to you find ways to lose, rather than ways to win.

Is 584 a record score for a team batting first and still to lose by an innings?

Definitely in county cricket. No-one seems quite sure if it is in first class cricket.

                Sigh, that's bad enough.

Just thinking that the surname Northeast is pretty uncommon (or is it?) Are there many or any Southeasts, Northwests or Southwests?

                  Comment

You're right (and checking the various southeast (disambiguation) pages (etc) on wikipedia, the only one that includes a person is Sam Northeast)#

However, North, East. South, West are all pretty common surnames

Derbyshire currently 28/5 with 86% of their runs having been scored by Du Plooy, currently 24 not out

Yorks are 20-4 too, with Abbas rampant.

Now 35 out of 40, with extras second highest scorer on 2

Derbyshire managed to reach 130 by the end, a score which looked way beyond them when they were 53/7

Meanwhile Yorkshire recovered from 33/6 to (currently) 155/7 thanks to Will Fraine (53) and Dom Bess (65*)

Interesting Lees hasn't taken his Bazball approach back to Durham. 46 off 134 balls.

Hannon-Dalby has a run up far longer than seems necessary for the pace he's generating

I'm not sure about allowing players to have 0 as their shirt number.

Less than thrilling at the Oval as Surrey strain to get the nine runs they need to match Warks first inning total

Seven wickets down Two runs in the last five overs

It's mostly been pretty good until, well now. Surrey were going at a shade under 5 an over and even now the rate for the innings is above 4.

There were also four byes from a ball that hit off stump.

Nor has Crawley, who managed a 27 ball duck. Kent have just sneaked ahead of Lancs with 6 wickets down. Given some of the bowling lineups Kent have fielded this season, Lancs might be a bit miffed at having to face Matt Henry and Navdeep Saini.

Surrey finally go ahead (by two runs, with two wickets in hand)

Essex declare on 505 for 9 at Chelmsford

Surrey will need 102 in the last session to win with eight wickets in hand

Derbyshire and Hampshire have already won

So have Notts, and Lancs and Surrey seem certain to join them. Some remarkable collapses will be needed to get results in the other three games.

Yes, Somerset's declaration is rather quixotic

Amla is rolling back the years in Surrey's chase. I will never tire of watching him bat.

Gloucestershire look like they have made a mistake with their declaration but at least it's given the fans some entertainment.
