Ireland have reduced West Indies to 56/3 off of 17.4 overs at Sabina Park. Ireland managed 219 in their innings, but there must have been some rain, as Windies target is 213 off 45 overs.
This is essentially the first XI minus the IPL players, and Chanderpaul was out for a duck.
Sarwan and Deonarine took the Windies home fairly comfortably in the end.
Some interesting county action at the moment. Essex are piling up the runs against Durham with Mickleburgh and Foster notching big tons. With Nottingham well on top vs Kent the title might not be the procession to Chester le Street that has been universally predicted. Lancs and Warks having a tight battle, Somerset marginally ahead of Yorks.
In division 2, Leics continue to impress, they have the edge vs Derby. Northants have managed to build a strong lead over Gloucs, though the pitch does seem easier today as predicted. Surrey made a tortuous 205 from 99 overs against Sussex who are making decent progress in reply. Middlesex are struggling against Glamorgan, and could be heading for a second defeat. Shah should be back soon, Morgan maybe a bit later, can't get there quick enough.
Compared with their recent signings of Shoaib Akhtar and Chris Lewis, that would be Man Utd signing Cantona.
Anyone here ever go to Minor Counties? I rather fancy it, even if they've disappeared off the radar since they were booted out of the first class one day one day competition.
You certainly can't accuse these sides of failing to take the game "out of town". In fact some of them could benefit from taking it into a town at some point. Herefordshire are playing at Colwall (pop 2,433), Eastnor (2 miles from Ledbury, population 8.837) and Brockhampton (there are two of these, one with a population of 241, the other 106).
It's kind of like the opposite of bidding for test matches, with games allocated to the least imposing places.
As well as minor counties, there's the quirky 'Recreational XI' to keep an eye out for this summer. Featuring I think 4 ex Somerset players, it's made up of out of contract or up and coming players.
I'd like to formally retract my anti Durham statements up thread.
A member explained last seasons "trophy parading" at approx 1AM on Sunday morning after a hard days drinking before, during and after the Burnley game. I cant actually remember what he said but do remember feeling guilty....c'mon Durham.
Collingwood posts regularly on the main Sunderland fans forum but (wisely) keeps his ID secret.
Gloucester keeping up the habit of bowling the other side out quickly, and getting bowled out even quicker themselves.
In such circumstances only class batsmen can score match winning hundreds. Like Robin Martin-Jenkins. A decent pound for pound cricketer but there's no way Wisden should have given him the book review job that Patrick Collins had held.
Yes, a good reminder for the next team that England have an off day in a test and people call for someone having a decent season in county cricket to replace Anderson (or Broad, who demolished the Somerset top order).
We can rightly moan about the proliferation of April Championship fixtures but it has at least meant proper full-strength teams playing in matches, though also ensured Essex's surprisingly bright start came to a shuddering halt.
I wonder when the every move of a mediocre Second Division side (Surrey) will stop being treated as the only county cricket story in town.
Feeling quite optimistic for Glamorgan at the moment. Just about to beat Worcestershire (if we don't manage to chase 38, the optimism will evaporate) and the defeat to Sussex is looking more reasonable as they look like rolling over everyone.
David Harrison looks like he's finally got back to fitness and the form he had a few years back, while James Harris seems to be continuing to improve. Allenby is a great signing. Batting is still very fragile but we're doing fine even with barely a run from Cosgrove. If he starts scoring then second place to Sussex looks possible (though Leics and Derby both look good too).
Oh well, lets hope it keeps him sidelined until after the tests start, just to stop Botham clamouring for his recall the instant England have an average session with the ball.
If we beat Durham, i may do a little squeal of excitement.
I caught the first day of Middlesex v Gloucs the other day with some of my west country buddies up in the Smoke for the day - Iain O'Brien ripped through Gloucs' middle and late order before Steve Kirby led the visitors' fightback. Bowlers very much on top in a pleasing way, and not in a manner that prevented shots being played. You can see why Gloucestershire can't build any big scores though - wickets tossed away with mindless abandon.
