As Wyatt says. I referred Scarborough assuming simply that readers would be more likely to have heard of it. For all Filey's renown it's barely more than an outlying village?
Near Scarborough would have been more accurate and fairer I reckon. I understand the need to use Scarborough as a reference point.
I did a quick trawl of my memory and then wikipedia looking for things with 5 letters in Scarborough. Never occurred to me to look miles down the coast. (smiley thing)
Although 'in Scarborough' is, strictly, 100% accurate?
and fairer I reckon
Maybe. I suppose I could have said 'in seaside town near Scarborough'; but while that might have helped you, don't forget that other readers may have a less encyclopedic knowledge of the East Riding. I'm guessing anyone who's heard of Filey would know it was near Scarborough. While if they hadn't heard of it, refer back through google, subsequent clues etc.
