I'm getting A CC, and then something, perhaps, to do with ringtones? But I don't see what "club" is doing, or how to get rid of the E, and I can't find the definition part of the clue.
You've all pieced together the various parts of the clue: CC for carbon-copy, ringtone for a mobile phone, and of course Stanley being a man's name, the ad reference was supposed to make it less cryptic, but that didn't work. Don't think Worthington had anything to do them, but just a dig at him after Tuesday's result.
I guess there is something to be said for a William Webb-Ellis style creative bending of the rules, but there's a beauty and a clarity to cryptic crossword clues which make them enjoyable to solve and (sometimes) work back through the setter's thought processes. Being so cavalier with those rules makes solving your clues feel much more like random guesswork, and leaves one with a sense of "well it must be, I suppose". I really think you'd actually find it more enjoyable too if you spent some time really coming up with clues which were lacking in loose ends and superfluity. I know I would.
Sorry if this comes across as po-faced and a bit stickler-ish.
