Division 1
Yo-ho, yo-ho, a pirate's life for me! The Bute Buccaneers are living well so far, leading the league with an unbeaten record. They knocked off now-third-place AIF Damlag on the road, they've allowed just three goals (two of which came in wins), and 22-year-old Dorotea Ziganda is on a torrid pace with 5 goals already in her highly anticipated follow-up act to last year's 7-goal campaign. It would probably be nice for them to see someone else step up as a secondary finisher, but they're in the catbird's seat for now.
But if the Buccaneers rule the sea above, Mermaids FC rules the sea below. The good news for them: they're the highest-scoring team in Division 1. Miranda Hollingdale has matched Ziganda's five goals to co-lead the division. Gina Harford's scored 4 and Juno Dawson's scored 3. They're building up from all over the place, with six different players notching 2 assists each. The bad news: they've given up 11 goals already and they're 0-0-1 against the remainder of Division 1's top five. Their next six matches will be a meat grinder; can their hard-charging approach withstand it?
Tied with the Mermaids on points are AIF Damlag, coming off of a decisive 3-0 victory over Palmeiras Ladies--their best result of the season coming hot off the heels of a surprising draw against the Chapelizod Hornets. They've scored multiple goals in all of their wins. They're 0-2-1 when held to 1 goal or fewer. The midfield trio of Gun Wid?n, Jeanette Wallenstr?m, and Carina P?voa have combined for 8 goals and 6 assists. Getting a bit more from striker Anette Vingkvist and seeing 23-year-old keeper Mirjam Ekholm play beyond her years would be the shot in the arm this team needs.
Palmeiras Ladies have quite a similar profile to Mermaids: they're second in the division with 13 goals, but in return they've conceded 9. It's probably not as simple as whether Ans Stuitje (79% save percentage) or Julia Raymond (33%) is in goal. Stuitje did give up two goals to Capel Bethesda, after all. But with an offense that's more diversified than Warren Buffett's stock portfolio, it almost feels like keeper is the silver bullet. Eva Lykkelund has 3 goals and 2 assists, Miina Alakulppi has 5 assists as a defender, seven players have two points, and eleven have at least one point. Their offense goes up against the stalwart Bute Buccaneers' defense next.
Mon Mothmas Legends is the fifth and final team within one match of a promotion spot, and this is a pretty sudden development after an 0-3-1 start. They beat Depok City and FC Boifica back-to-back thanks in large part to Eva Mendes (2 goals, 1 assist in that span). Mendes has been most of the team's scoring and playmaking all season. She might or might not be their best player, though--Chlo? Vanluchenne has made her case for best player in the division, and her absence in the next match or two will be a challenge to overcome. (But they overcame against FC Boifica, so it's doable.)

But if the Buccaneers rule the sea above, Mermaids FC rules the sea below. The good news for them: they're the highest-scoring team in Division 1. Miranda Hollingdale has matched Ziganda's five goals to co-lead the division. Gina Harford's scored 4 and Juno Dawson's scored 3. They're building up from all over the place, with six different players notching 2 assists each. The bad news: they've given up 11 goals already and they're 0-0-1 against the remainder of Division 1's top five. Their next six matches will be a meat grinder; can their hard-charging approach withstand it?
Tied with the Mermaids on points are AIF Damlag, coming off of a decisive 3-0 victory over Palmeiras Ladies--their best result of the season coming hot off the heels of a surprising draw against the Chapelizod Hornets. They've scored multiple goals in all of their wins. They're 0-2-1 when held to 1 goal or fewer. The midfield trio of Gun Wid?n, Jeanette Wallenstr?m, and Carina P?voa have combined for 8 goals and 6 assists. Getting a bit more from striker Anette Vingkvist and seeing 23-year-old keeper Mirjam Ekholm play beyond her years would be the shot in the arm this team needs.
Palmeiras Ladies have quite a similar profile to Mermaids: they're second in the division with 13 goals, but in return they've conceded 9. It's probably not as simple as whether Ans Stuitje (79% save percentage) or Julia Raymond (33%) is in goal. Stuitje did give up two goals to Capel Bethesda, after all. But with an offense that's more diversified than Warren Buffett's stock portfolio, it almost feels like keeper is the silver bullet. Eva Lykkelund has 3 goals and 2 assists, Miina Alakulppi has 5 assists as a defender, seven players have two points, and eleven have at least one point. Their offense goes up against the stalwart Bute Buccaneers' defense next.
Mon Mothmas Legends is the fifth and final team within one match of a promotion spot, and this is a pretty sudden development after an 0-3-1 start. They beat Depok City and FC Boifica back-to-back thanks in large part to Eva Mendes (2 goals, 1 assist in that span). Mendes has been most of the team's scoring and playmaking all season. She might or might not be their best player, though--Chlo? Vanluchenne has made her case for best player in the division, and her absence in the next match or two will be a challenge to overcome. (But they overcame against FC Boifica, so it's doable.)
