Well, an exciting opening but the game has been a bit of snore since. I'm sure the heat is not helping. Madrid somehow is able to pull the worst of dry heat and humidity.

BTW, I posted a thread earlier this season about how ineffective throw-ins are in most parts of the pitch. This match is proving that theory in spades (esp. for Liverpool), which leads me to wonder why teams will let the ball roll out for a throw-in when they are not under pressure. I get letting it roll out when there is pressure (even if the other team will end up with control) but to let it roll out when the player can control it and pass it, makes no sense. This is an area where the data folks need to educate the coaches (per the analytics thread from last weekend).

Havent seen incident so no axe to grind. Been watching football since 1971 & penalty for handball never happened on regular basis until very recently. So why? More actual handballs. More players trying to make handball happen. Referees more tolerant. Defenders realising they could once use arms now being penalised

The worst final for me in recent memory was the Juve-Milan final. That was brutal. The two Atletico-Real finals were poor. So far this one has been on part with those Atletico-Real finals, although I have a horse in this race so am naturally more interested. For a neutral this can't be good.
