Though I would put this in the category of "yet another idiotic screwup evidencing the US forces' complete lack of intelligence (of either sort" rather than that of an "October surprise provocation".

Not that it makes any difference at all to the poor people who died or their families, of course.

I honestly don't understand why this kind of thing keeps happening with what appears to be increasing regularity.
