Chancellor may not be delivering a Brexit speech over next two weeks but he is heading out on a tour of European capitals starting with Oslo and Stockholm, then The Hague, Madrid and Lisbon.
Wonder if he's scheduled the odd Q&A as a substitute "speech"?

If he doesn't, I think the game's pretty much up for a sane Brexit.

so we have a Chancellor trying to maintain some kind of relationship with other countries whilst the Foreign secretary determines economic policy

Someone pointing out to him that Norway aren’t in the EU?

          Johnson's speech is in.

“The great thing about EU regulation is that it is not primarily there for business convenience, it is not primarily there to create opportunities for companies to trade freely across frontiers, it is primarily there to create a united EU.”
What's the effect of having agreed regulations? Does it facilitate trade across frontiers? What effect is us diverging going to have?

          Pseudo-intellectual clown.

So May & some of her cabinet are going to make the Government’s position clearer with these set-piece speeches, are they?

This “three buckets” negotiating position I keep seeing referenced (ie there are areas of policy and regulation where the UK would want to immediately diverge from the EU, others where we would set the same goals but achieve them through different means, and a third area of continued alignment “because it makes sense for our economies”) sounds as clear as mud to me.

It would be nice if instead of giving those speeches to rooms full of journalists, they sat down with the EU and did something about it.

Johnson's speech on live. I turned off, it was appalling. Hard to detect what the argument is. Um err James Dyson err the EU decided err.

Malta and Cyprus, of course, are in the EU.

Keir Starmer MP, Labour’s Shadow Brexit Secretary, responding to the Foreign Secretary’s speech, said:

“This speech underlined the Government’s real intentions; a Brexit of deregulation, where rights and protections are casually cast aside and where the benefits of the Single Market and the Customs Union are ignored.

“Nobody will be fooled or reassured by the Foreign Secretary’s empty rhetoric. His insistence on deregulating our economy is the opposite of what businesses and trade unions want to hear.

“Instead of building the consensus we need, the Government’s approach will only further divide the country and put jobs, rights and living standards at risk.”
Is there some stirring there? Needs to be.

So I watched BBCNews at 2pm. Johnson speech was lead. Short reaction slots from @ChukaUmunna and a Tory MP. Then long interview with Rees-Mogg. Chuka apart, fact free discussion. Together with Brexit press, no wonder British people are changing their minds so slowly.

If your response when @BorisJohnson proposes reconciliation is to howl and screech and call him names, fine, that’s your right. But don’t then turn around and claim that you’re the one being reasonable.

Keir Starmer has consistently talked about the 6 Tests and so have Corbyn & McDonnell

                                    1. Does it ensure a strong and collaborative future relationship with the EU?

                                    2. Does it deliver the “exact same benefits” as we currently have as members of the Single Market and Customs Union?

                                    3. Does it ensure the fair management of migration in the interests of the economy and communities?

                                    4. Does it defend rights and protections and prevent a race to the bottom?

                                    5. Does it protect national security and our capacity to tackle cross-border crime?

                                    6. Does it deliver for all regions and nations of the UK?

So not a change. Maybe a change of emphasis.

I'm not happy with that formulation, for reasons we've done.

I just thought that they were a bit more prominent than usual in the tweet. Maybe I'm wrong.

I don't like point 3 much. Who are these immigrants who've damaged communities with unfair immigration? I accept they need to say something, but this is isn't it.

Nicola Sturgeon should ask Scots if they understand the Privy Council, Salisbury Convention, and Prorogation. Heck, even Unionists don't know that stuff!

                                            Time to leave the UK.

As Tubbs says Point 3 is dog whistling bullshit. It also contradicts point 2, because free movement is probably the biggest single benefit of membership...

The other 5 points seem sound.

I was putting myself in Nicola Sturgeon's shoes. I'm not sure about post-Brexit independence.

I think setting out tests was a good idea. But how many voters know about the tests? Is enough being done when the Tories shit all over these tests?
