St Patrick's Day Now Longer Than Lent

Why is St Patrick's Day being celebrated this weekend? Surely next is closer to the day itself. Or do [strike]cynical brewers[/strike] proud sons and daughters of Erin need ten days to do the old snake wrangler justice now.

Anyway, 'Bigshot Happy Cowboy, Okay!' to one and all.

It's like most of these events, they always do before as opposed to after, as it's harder to sell once the date has passed!

That makes sense. I've been to a few work Christmas parties in January and there's a reason why it's easier to get a booking then.

Half the country will be in Cheltenham on Thursday.

Our non-date-specific shirts are here and are much nicer and culturally apposite than Benjm's "Happy Cowboy" rip-offs, which look like they will fall apart after one wash, and probably give you hives. Message me, rather than the printer. Limited edition of 100 and half gone.

And the other half who don't buy into this pathetic Paddywhackery and animal abuse definitely won't.

I'm afraid we no longer ship to Canada, due to problems with customer payments.

It's health and safety and political correctness gone mad.

Brexit fans, wave goodbye to Ireland and the other 26 satellite nations, while celebrating your right to dump industrial effluent into rivers, with one of my pragmatically manufactured garments. Guaranteed not to biodegrade before next year's celebrations, unlike some peat derived competitors.

The De Niro design is ace, btw, MsD.

Ah, there you are. (Your customer service page is down again.) When does the off-gassing from the silkscreen stop? The hallucinations are becoming bothersome.

Far as I know, the London parade has always been held on the previous Sunday, rather than the day itself.

Just in from it. The NI Supporters Club float (OK, bus) was a bg hit.

Fuck off, paddies. One end of March, we have St David's Day and it is roundly ignored and, yet, two weeks later, it is St Paddy's Day and everyone is begorrahing and riverdancing like nobody's business. We can get stupidly pissed ourselves, you know, and it isn't on over-rated diesel oil.

Last year I was at work just off Trafalgar Square and for a stroll between shows. Obviously all the local shops and offies had been de-nudes of cans of beer and many, many young drinkers were using all sorts of keys, cutlery and security gates of closed shops, anything basically to try and open bottles of beer. Strange when all those souvenir shops in the area fill their windows with bottle openers!

Patrick's Day in Dublin is not for the faint-hearted, especially after 6pm. The scene is like something out of Howl by Ginsberg, except with Guinness instead of heroin.

On a trip to Dublin in the 90's I had arrived on a day when school leavers get their results. By about 6pm you couldn't move for pools of vomit and copulating teenagers!

Yeah, commercialised like most things. A family member has a successful independent London pub chain. All Patricks day merch goes straight in the bin. Used to enjoy it as a student in the 80's, but not any more!

Youse are a right crowd of miseries. Feel the love and join the Caledonian Pipers, Bolivian Mariachi Band in bowler hats, and assorted cheering locals, partying tourists and bemused GAA-heads in dancing the Corry Evans all along Piccadilly and Regent Street:

Everyone should've piled on and 'dinged' dodgy tickets only to be bucked off by an inspector.

Alas nobody turned up dressed as Blakey or his Belair equiv Werner Heubeck. We later spent an hour crawling through traffic on Victoria Embankment before refreshments at Philomena Begley's pub in Drury Lane. The bus is now safely and lovingly tucked up in an Ipswich garage

Watched the rugby in The Shamrock on Saturday. The owner told the England fans to fuck off. I only survived by saying I hated both rugby and the concept of Englishness.

It was the parade in town yesterday, I think. I've never been, because the stalls outside the town hall look rough as fuck. It's like a post-apocalyptic German market. They put metal fences up, ffs.

The only time I'd hear my Irish heritage mentioned by Grandma was when I was drunk or lying. Apparently it was the Irish in me. Hahaha. You can't really get away with that can you? Probably more a reflection of her family than Ireland as a whole.

                                                  Anyway. We've all got stories.
