    I dug deeper into that blog that uncovered the fraud. I’m still not sure how they first noticed it, but the data was clearly faked. It’s not even a good fake.

      It developed out of the broader replication crisis.

      A French student doing her PhD in the US was skeptical of Gino''s results, and tried to replicate them after leaving academia. When she couldn't do so, despite having gotten the underlying data from Gino, she went to Data Colada and it all unraveled from there.

      The New Yorker piece on this is quite good.
