Can't tell if this is misconduct yet, but police have shot a man dead in Swindon: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan...shire-54862787

Seeing as it was the police that just killed somebody, I'm not sure that this statement is as reassuring as they might think:

A spokesman said: "We would, however, like to reassure the public there is no risk to the wider community and that there is likely to be an increased police presence in the area for a considerable time."

Police "misinterpret guidance" at Sainsbury's in Oldbury

But they've apologised so that's ok then

Despite threatening motorist with a baton, officer is not suspended pending an investigation.

"The man added that he planned to pursue a private prosecution against the officer"

This is typical police, the officer felt slighted as the driver was not displaying the due deference towards him and so he arrested him to exercise power and dominance.
The police need to really root out these idiots as they are a massive stain on the force.

A reference to "can't tell if this is misconduct yet", rather than the outcome

Cops shot a guy in the back in Wimbledon a couple of years ago. Two have been charged with criminal offences for the shooting, but since then armed police have been harassing the guy and his family.

If there are 5,000 complaints against the Met, and only 6 officers disciplined, it's clearly disaffected political agitators with a marxist political agenda against the Police Service

^ Christ, that's a depressing read. Coming a day after Police officers are hospitalised, by people who were demonstrating to be allowed to demonstrate peacefully!

She's had some pretty grim experiences with coppers by the sounds but ALL of them are bastards? I'll wager I've had more interactions with the police than she has. Some were arseholes, some were sound, some were just doing a difficult job,as best as they could. No different than folk in any other kind of profession really.

You'd like to think that as a society, we're evolving and moving away from making generalisations about a whole group of people based on the actions of a few. It seems that this is still beyond the ACAB crowd for now.

                                          I know a few police officers and I don't think they're bastards.

OTOH on Saturday the road into Butetown was shut by a demo calling for justice for a young black man who was detained by the police, came home with mysterious injuries, collapsed and died. So maybe my experience of interactions with the police would be different if I was called Mohamud and less white than I am.

I know Butetown, I used to get my hair cut there from some Somalian barbers when I worked down there back in the day as well as a nice Carribbean takeaway. My memories of that area were:
Loads of narrow streets that all looked the same, so I kept getting lost.
Hard to find parking due to the above.
Lots of severe street humps which meant you had to drive very very slowly to prevent scraping the front of your car. This of course gave the local police ample opportunity to stop me almost every time I drove there as I was driving suspiciously slowly so i must be engaging in Nefarious activities or under the influence.

I have had many interactions with police, most very negative and whenever I have needed them, They have been mainly useless.

Each time I’ve seen violence on a demonstration (from the poll tax riots to the student demonstrations) the police have been behind the violence in every case. I've no reason to think that the demonstration in Bristol was any different.

worth remembering that the recent issues began with a policeman allegedly murdering a woman.

I'm sure some police are fine- though when I've encountered them as a group socially there was a tendency to look at the world through the prison of overtime.
But their policy on public order, for example doesn't seem to be based on equal rights for all

ACAB isn't, generally, intended to be a comment on the individual personality of each individual copper. More a reflection on the fact that the role is the role of a bastard and it doesn't matter much if they love their mum.

The thing about "a few bad apples", of course, is that they spoil the whole barrel. Not by making the whole barrel a bit less nice, nor by giving the whole barrel a bad name, but by making every apple rot.

(Oh, and I'd be extremely sceptical about cop injury info givien out by cops. Same as I'd be extremely sceptical about any and all info given out by cops.)

Perhaps SCAB might be more appropriate? They're a necessary evil for me, much like tax inspectors, social workers, bouncers etc. Not a job I'd fancy but I'm glad someone's willing to do it.
