    it really really wouldn't.

Evidently, Labour are considering hastening their own extinction.

Six-One News reporting the Greens may step in again, but as with Labour, hard to see the grassroots endorsing the idea.

I have no words. Why does the Irish electorate always reward Fianna Fail for acting like children....

Is your position that, having come second in the election, FF has to go into government with FG?

The 2016 Irish election is over!

It is not my position, no. I'd rather both parties disappeared from the face of the earth.

But the reality is that FG+FF is the only coalition that has the numbers, and the two parties have zero policy difference between them. In any other country in western Europe the new cabinet would already be in place.

What FF are doing is trying to force FG into a minority government, so that they can continue to snipe at FG from opposition and then win (they hope) in a landslide at the next election and rule the country for another 20 years. Micheal Martin is suggesting that a minority government would be "a new type of politics" for Ireland and is trying to pretend that he is a reformer. It is nothing of the sort. What's going on now is just the same old FF politics as usual, i.e party before country. But the Irish people fall for it every. single. fucking. time.

Micheal Martin is the same man who continued to back Bertie Ahern when it was clear that a foreign cash amount lodged to Ahern's bank accounts equated to exactly US$45,000.00 when the day's exchange rate and comission for US$ was applied. Ahern first claimed it was sterling, but that didn't work according to the exchange rates. He then claimed it was a mixture of sterling and Irish pounds and that the $45,000.00 thing was just a coincidence. Micheal Martin backed him. Reformer me hole.

And, to add to Borracho's thoughts, the growing perception that the three centre-left parties could form a rainbow coalition with FG has little to recommend it. Even if one excludes the disadvantages for the Greens and SDs of being tied in with Labour, all would be outnumbered four-to-one by FG, FF and SF could pull the plug at any time of their choosing, and the resultant election would likely see FF, FG and SF consolidate and increase their standings.

And during the RTE debate, Kenny's response to an FF coalition was "Certainly not", but "Events, dear boy" is the Irish response to political contortions.

It happens in all European countries. That's how it works. You vote for the party who you want to govern, but when they can't govern by themselves, you understand that they might go into coalition with somebody.

There is a "different kind of politics" that Martin is refusing to carry out, and that is to go into a coalition government of equal partners. FF refuses to be the equal partner of anybody. They are immature shits.

They're obviously scum, don't get me wrong. As are FG.

The 2016 Irish election is over!

Fianna Fail said they wouldn't go into government with Fine Gael or Sinn Fein. Fine Gael said they wouldn't go into coalition with Fianna Fail or Sinn Fein.

Those three parties control 74% of the seats in the Dail, and it was clear from all the polls that this is what was going to happen. So promises to not go into coalition with so and so were nothing but unrealistic, opportunistic and stupid populism.

The main problem with FF is that throughout their history they have been good at delivering on populist bullshit when it suits them, even if it means driving the country off a cliff. They are doing it again right now. They will create an unstable FG minority government and they will profit from it.

Both the Greens and SDs swiftly rubbished the Sindo article, and while unlikely to vote for Kenny, are likely to facilitate legislation from opposition if required. The FG-FF talks are expected to take a fortnight to conclude, possibly longer if Labour do indeed re-enter the mix. The latter would have to call a National Conference to approve coalition, and the grassroots seem unlikely to endorse the leadership. Burton only has to resign if the party goes into opposition, so could all be a wheeze to avoid a challenge from Alan Kelly.

It's not lying, it is cute hoorism. It's completely different.

Fianna Fail exist only to win seats. They don't have policy. They are not a political party. If they thought they could win more seats next time around by breaking their promises then they'd have done so in a heartbeat.

The bigger problem here is that they are willing to throw Ireland into a period of prolonged political instability just to smite a party that they have no policy differences with. And they are doing it behind a façade of keeping their bullshit election promises. It is genius and it is destructive. The same old shit.

Given SF are unlikely to have an outright majority, surely that rather feeble 'cartoon' would be more apt in the Steeples thread, where they have at least been in power to a degree.

Dáil business has been cleared for Thursday, so we may well get a Taoiseach then - would require talks to end tonight and the Indos coming on board tomorrow to meet that timetable, though.

                                                    Hahaha. Ridiculous.

Fianna Fail get Fine Gael to promise to carry out a pointless, populist move like promising to get rid of Irish Water. In return for this, Fianna Fail refuse the responsibility of going into government, but will be so kind as to allow a Fine Gael minority government. The EU will overturn the nationalisation of Irish Water, Fianna Fail will force an election from opposition, claiming that Fine Gael broke their promise. Fianna Fail will win the next election at a canter.

To use Louis van Gaal's terminology, is Fianna Fail really smart or is everybody else just stupid?
