I saw a great description of Harris the other day: he looks like a TY student playing Willy Loman in the school play.

I live in his constituency, general perception of him here is that he is well-meaning enough but bit sheltered, and probably got elevated beyond his actual level of ability some time ago.

My mother still thinks he is a teenager campaigning on behalf of his autistic brother. He has her vote for sure

I'm sure he'll do his best to get a slice of the hotel arsonist vote.

He's got a terribly mournful face, which isn't usually a good look for a politician.

Meanwhile, fresh from their recent pivot on immigration, Sinn Féin are now conducting an about-turn on the Hate Speech Bill, calling for the legislation to be scrapped, despite approving it when it came before the Dáil last year.

Did you see the Cork Shinner on the Rte news talking about the Hate Speech Bill. Talk about out of his depth, it was embarrassing

My take on recent events in NI

1 Old politician retired after 40 years latterly underachieving and unsuccessful.Succeeded by ally and deputy Donald Jefferson who said Business as Usual

2 Some voters may turn Alliance in GE but previous leader controversy didn't see Unionists collapse

3 There are 3 different Unionist parties but they differ little though voters are shrewd enough not to give them equal shares
                      .
                      4 I won't speculate on others involved

Simon Coveney declares he no longer wishes to serve in Cabinet, which gives Harris carte blanche for a reshuffle of the FG ministerial ranks.

Ciaran Mullooly, formerly of RTE is to run for the European Parliament with Michael Fitzmaurice's Independent Ireland grouping. They've also attracted the two FF Connemara councillors who were less than sympathetic, to put it mildly, when an accommodation centre for asylum seekers was burnt down in the spring.

                              haha, faint praise

Political correspondents scoff at mere Cabinet appointments, for today their true calling, the Junior Ministerial reshuffles, requiring an intricate choreography of geography and gender, have arrived. With Coveney departing office, he required a replacement from Munster, duly arriving through Patrick O'Donovan, his lower post was filled by fellow Limerick man Kieran O'Donnell, and the circle was squared by the appointment of Corkman Colm Burke to fill O'Donnell's position. Similarly, Varadkar's vacancy was occupied by super-junior for Europe, Jennifer Carroll McNeill, her old slot was taken by Mr Brexit, Neil Richmond, and fellow Dublin TD Emer Higgins fell into his job. Finally, with Harris' elevation requiring another Leinster TD at Cabinet, Longford-Westmeath's Peter Burke was chosen, and former Mayo footballer Alan Dillon enters the junior ranks - hope you're all taking notes!

Its fucking feudal. Maybe a fucntioning local government would negate this need for a Minister from the county/province to "have our voices heard"/distribute largesse with flagrant pork barrel like a corpulent baron to grasping voters.

A far-right group protested outside Minister Roderic O'Gorman's house over the weekend, seems like only a matter of time before a politician is physically assaulted or worse.

All of them wearing balaclavas of course. They're proud to be Nazis, they just don't want their family, friends and most importantly employers to know.
