The lousy bastards have suspended the freepost address, just as I'd put their campaign leaflet in an envelope, along with several pizza shop menus, charity clothes bags and some pubes. Humourless nerks, one and all.
Godfrey Bloom is my MEP. Outside of being sexist and racist, he's best remembered for writing a long, incoherent letter to the local paper in which he (honestly) blamed potholes on the EU.
As you'd expect here, absolutely no one gets the point, drifting off into Guardian bollocks and endless smears (not at all different from the endless smears true or -mostly-not about the unions links to communists states/dictators etc etc etc) But WSC blog site is a brown nose fest of pompous tut tutters.
The point is that UKIP, shit as they are, are seen -wrongly to my POV-as the only party taking on the mass corruption and waste of the EU-which only the thickest Guardianistas in existence can or will deny. The mind numbing red tape, the sinecures for garbage/failed politicians-Kinnock, Leon Brittain,Ashton...-unaccountable bodies pusuing political vanity projects. The main party's answer this by patronisingly ignoring everything and saying they know best. (The Guardianista's just scream 'Facist' as that's the cretin level of their debating skills.
That UKIP wont do a thing about the above goes without saying-protest party's are shit in office-ask anyone in Brighton how shit and useless the greens have been- but they are perceived as the only ones taking the issue seriously. Look at labours euro election broadcasts. Not one has mentioned any issue re Europe, its all been pathetic party politicking re housing rent caps-general election stuff. I haven't the stomach to watch the tories or libs crap.
UKIp/far right are gaining power because the self righteous left (as hugely displayed here) are arrogant, pompously pios and ignorant of every issue that the working class person is narked about. But then the left today is over run by posh public school oiks so no surprise there then.
(BTW Cyril Smith the paedophile was first reported in 1979 by Private Eye and followed up over the decades til his death-the pompous and pious again getting it all wrong with their fascist bleatings. Cyril ? A lovely working class hero! For that we'll over look the buggery!)

I must be one of those thickos you have in mind. I thought that seeing there used to be red-tape in 28 different countries, that it's been cut down rather a lot.
What are these political vanity projects? The Single Market?
btw, Kinnock isn't a "failed politician". He led the Opposition for 9 years, got nominated for the Commissioner job with all party support, and got promoted to lead reforms of the Commission.
I've been a fairly regular - if mild - EU critic on here over the years, and have stated my opposition to the Euro currency project, as it has been constituted. As have others.
But, studs, that would require you - you know - actually reading other people's posts. Which you've never offered the slightest indication that you do.
It's amazing how people point out that Cathy Ashton and all aren't very high profile people and that they haven't been elected, but then don't ask why.
The heads of government (elected) want it that way.
The President of the Commission could certainly be elected, on the same day as the European Elections. Beyond that, I think it would be a struggle. Would voters get to know much about most of them?
Well it would help prevent Euro elections being seen as proxy opinion polls for whenever the next general election is, which is how things are at the moment. It would focus the election on what it's actually for, a bit more anyway.
Studs is going to wake up in a couple of hours and reintroduce his throbbing forehead to his pillow. Why did I go down the pub at lunchtime? How did I get home?

They will be indirectly elected this time - each bloc has nominated its official candidate and the one from the largest becomes the commission president:

I quite like studs's drive-by cant-take-no-more press submit and forget about engaging-engaging style tbh. I'd buy him a half of Landlords and no mistake!
