        RIP. Plenty worse politicians, and he had a tough gig as Chancellor throughout the most acute period of the worldwide financial/banking crisis. Seems from his Wiki page to have engaged in the standard MP shenanigans re second home expense claims, so no saint. And he's responsible (along with all subsequent Chancellors who haven't taken their opportunities to fix the problem) for the stupidity of the bizarrely anomalous seesawing marginal income tax rate pattern which arises from withdrawing allowances at a certain income level instead of just having a sensible progression of tax rate bands, so not a great Chancellor in my book as far as tax law change goes. Deserved to live longer than 70 though.

          We wouldn't have had austerity had Brown called that election in 2007 and ridden out the recession. A crying shame.
