No one can ever win this "what Brexit stance would have won" argument, tbh. All would have lost votes somewhere and gained a few somewhere else. And the circumstances and mood music of 2019 were different to those of 2017, to Labour's disadvantage. None had the beguiling, dishonest simplicity of "Get Brexit done".

Euro elections aren't much of a guide to general elections though. Never have been, and certainly weren't last year. Remind me how the party that topped the polls in the Euros did at the GE? How many seats did they win in December, standing on the exact same platform as in May?

Exactly. They became an informal coalition with the Tories.
E10, I accept that point to an extent. But it still doesn't answer the question of how it is clear that Labour would have done better sticking to their previous policy. Such information as we do have points to the opposite. And it was that information that forced Labour to make a change.Last edited by Lucy Waterman; 14-01-2020, 14:43.

Of course in Tony Blair’s day antisemitism meant caricaturing and stereotyping Jews and it was unknown something Alistair Campbell made a bit of a habit of.

In both cases, the people involved denied malign intent, and are fervently believed by their supporters while everyone else says come off it.Last edited by Lucy Waterman; 14-01-2020, 17:35.

Campbell not only commissioned a blatantly anti-semitic image he told the BBC to fuck off when they raised the matter.
Happy days....

I see Starmer has a diverse team in his campaign camp, including the wishy-washy Labour First faction national co-ordinator (who I know). Be interesting to see if the press give him a relatively easy ride (until the leadership campaign concludes, at least). I’m still hoping a RLB/Raynor ticket comes in, but it’s not looking likely right now.
