These lists of towns, good or bad, are waaaaaay more useless than top 50 albums of the millennium or whatever. How can you quantify whether a place is good or bad, and for whom?

I live near Hackney, which typically get described as a terrible place, but has more going on there per square mile than almost anywhere in Europe. And I'm typing from Wokingham, which routinely gets described as one of the most pleasant places to live, but I'm so bored off my ass that I'm getting into petty squables on the internet.
