Related to that, I had to help out with a ton of grant proposals at work last week. This basically means reviewing what the professor and the fund manager have put in the proposal, and telling them what to fix to match agency guidelines, program specifics, etc. Each proposal has a "biosketch" (a mini CV) for the major researchers, and the National Science Foundation guidelines limit the number of related publications you can cite at 10. Someone had listed more than that, so I told the person submitting it to edit that person's biosketch. He wrote back to me to say that "I trimmed his pubs." I had to giggle.
