    Case for the defence?

So far in the tournament, 12 matches have been played, and surprisingly, only two clean sheets have been recorded to date. Aside from Cech, there haven't been any notable goalkeeping howlers, so is this attributable to fast-tempo midfield possession and distribution, clinical strikes from forwards, below-par defensive play, or perhaps, a combination of all three?

There's been an average of 2.75 goals per game so far, way above the norm, particularly if you take into account that the opening group matches are nearly always lower scoring than the later ones (when teams in need of a win throw caution to the wind) - so we can expect to see that average go even higher by the time the knock-out stages come around.

Think it might just be that teams have been fairly evenly matched so far, there haven't been any very one-sided games. While this can often encourage 0-0 draws, so far, instead, it seems to have encouraged 1-1s instead.
Odd that a fellow Irishman can only recall one bit of dodgy goalkeeping in this tournament...
