Glad the Caps broke through. I've come to have some familiarity-breeds-contempt toward the Pens, living where I do.

Even though I used to live near DC and support the Caps, I always knew that was a marriage of convenience and now I'm totally rooting for the Bolts. I don't give a shit about Washington any more,* whereas I'd be happy to see the Lightning win because my nephew would get to have the experience of one of his teams winning something big, which would be awesome. Even though I think it's dumb that there are more NHL teams in Florida than in Quebec, the Lightning are a good organization that have done the right things to build a legitimate fanbase, which is more than can be said for a number of the teams in hockey's natural territories.


*I lived in the DC area for most of my adult life and have no sentimental attachment to it at all. In fact, I dislike it it for a number of reasons and have no interest in visiting (though I will be visiting June 11-13 for work if anyone else is around there and wants to get a drink). And that's kinda sad, really. It feels like a big hole. Maybe this is a small window into what divorce feels like.
