It’s extraordinary how much Czechia punches above its weight in women’s tennis, isn’t it? Started with Navratilova I assume.
Currently Czech women occupy 4 of the top 14 spots in the WTA rankings. Anyone expecting that to be different in five years time might like to know that three of the four highest ranked women aged U19 are Czech, which is just amazing.
I can imagine that on a national level success inspires dedicated imitation, but I’m guessing there’s probably a bit more to it than that in terms of much better youth tennis infrastructure in Czechia than elsewhere?
