Holland is quite rightly going nuts over Femke Bol. She is just a lovely, great person who has no idea that she is.

And Keeley Hodgkinson is a very admirable, cut out the English bullshit person too.

What a throw from Kitaguchi, my favorite! From 4th to gold!

I loved how Femka Bol got the Dutch home in the womens 4x400, after that last steps stumble in the mixed relay last weekend.

Enjoyed watching most of the evening finals sessions on tv, though that's probably my fill of athletics until next year's Olympics. Noted that Germany didn't get one medal, which has to be a first, surely...

They mentioned last night that it was the second time that Germany failed to get a medal, although the first time at a "full" championships - the previous occasion was in 1976 when the only event was the 50km walk (a separate world championships was set up for the event after it was dropped from the programme for the Olympics that year).

                It's the shoes (noch einmal)

While the shoes undoubtedly contribute, this obliterates the record in the manner of Radcliffe in 2003. Only 8 women have broken 2:17 new shoes or not. The impact of shoes is shown by 6 of the top 10 all time being set in the last 12 months, but even so, that's one hell of a margin, a world apart from 2:14-2:15.
