Yes, this is sad. I remember him playing in the famous game in Jamaica,1989, which England surprisingly won.
Not sure about the point that he was the first Northants player in 77 years to be picked for England. Allan Lamb was picked 5 years earlier.

Northamptonshire born. A nice little piece from Vic Marks in the Guardian too.
Very sad to hear about this, a very good cricketer.
