      9-7 BRONCOS at 14-2 TEXANS

      TEXANS win 48-3

7-0 Bradford 7 yard TD reception
14-0 Holmes 1 yard TD run
      14-3 Elam 27 yard FG

38-3 Johnson 41 yard TD reception
      41-3 Nugent 39 yard FG
48-3 Glenn 41 yard INT return

Swift, elegant and deadly, the TEXANS dispatched the hapless BRONCOS with the minimum of fuss, with DAVID CARR completing 21 of 29 for 379 yards and 3 TDs to win MVP honours.

COREY BRADFORD had a fabulous game with 9 catches for 165 yards and 2 TDs, while ANDRE JOHNSON had 3 receptions for 90 yards and a TD. KELLEY WASHINGTON added 3 receptions for 76 yards. PRIEST HOLMES ran 13 times for 28 yards and 2 TDs.

JEFF NELSON completed 17 of 28 for only 156 yards, with 2 INTs. Those were by AARON GLENN and STUART SCHWEIGERT, who both also had 6 tackles. GLENN took his INT 41 yards to the house. THOMAS DAVIS was a force at OLB, with 3 tackles for a loss.

CLINTON PORTIS was the lone bright spot for DENVER with 18 carries for 94 yards. TE KENNY MAY was the leading receiver for the BRONCOS with 6 catches for 56 yards.

A new history of the HOUSTON TEXANS

An epic battle now awaiting the HOUSTON TEXANS in the AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME as the 11-5 INDIANAPOLIS COLTS, PEYTON MANNING, EDGERRIN JAMES, MARVIN HARRISON (at 35 about to retire), REGGIE WAYNE, DWIGHT FREENEY et al come to town...

              11-5 COLTS at 14-2 TEXANS

              TEXANS win 38-31

              0-3 Vanderjagt 37 yard FG
7-3 Johnson 21 yard TD reception
7-10 Wayne 3 yard TD reception
14-10 Johnson 12 yard TD reception
14-17 Mack 16 yard TD reception
              17-17 Nugent 45 yard FG
24-17 Bradford 68 yard TD reception
31-17 Miller 9 yard TD reception
31-24 Harrison 44 yard TD reception
31-31 Pollard 18 yard TD reception
38-31 Holmes 12 yard TD reception

Was this the game when DAVID CARR finally came of age? In an epic duel between CARR and MANNING, two of the finest QBs in the game, it was CARR who came out on top, completing 23 of 31 for 347 yards, 5 TDs and an INT (by MICHAEL DOSS) in a scintillating battle.

Back and forth the two aces went, until with the scores tied at 31-31 the TEXANS took a 7 point lead on an amazing catch and run by PRIEST HOLMES. MANNING's last-ditch drive failed when his fourth down pass intended for 35 year old MARVIN HARRISON hit 35 year old AARON GLENN, and the TEXANS took over on downs. PRIEST iced it by running out the clock, and the TEXANS were back in the SUPER BOWL again.

In response to CARR's 357 yards and 5 TDs, MANNING himself threw for 351 yards and 4 TDs, completing 25 of 34. MARVIN HARRISON, playing what would be his final ever game, had 8 catches for 149 yards and a score.

CARR spread the ball around, with COREY BRADFORD the leading receiver in yardage with 3 receptions for 104 yards, and BILLY MILLER the leading receiver in catches with 7 for 60 yards and a TD. ANDRE JOHNSON had 4 grabs for 70 yards and 2 TDs.

Both teams had almost identifical rushing attacks, with HOLMES rushing 12 times for 40 yards and JAMES rushing 13 times for 41 yards.

DONOVAN DARIUS was the leading tackler for the TEXANS with 7. THOMAS DAVIS forced a fumble which STUART SCHWEIGERT recovered. CORNELIUS GRIFFIN got a sack.

A new history of the HOUSTON TEXANS

And a fabulous SUPER BOWL in Arizona next as HOUSTON goes up against the mighty 12-4 RAMS, the Greatest Show in Turf, complete with WARNER, FAULK, HOLT, BRUCE and co.

Adding poignancy is that WARNER (36) and FAULK (34) will both retire after the game; and it is likely the last appearance for ISAAC BRUCE (who is 34) in the SUPER BOWL too. A final chance for glory for these ST LOUIS greats!

A new history of the HOUSTON TEXANS

SB: 14-2 TEXANS vs 12-4 RAMS

                  TEXANS win 13-10

                  3-0 Nugent 25 yard FG
                  3-3 Wilkins 20 yard FG
10-3 Bradford 36 yard TD reception
                  13-3 Nugent 41 yard FG
13-10 Faulk 88 yard TD reception

The skies opened over the desert and amid the driving rain, darkening gloom and mud an epic SUPER BOWL took place. In extraordinary drama DAVID CARR was knocked out very early on with MARQUES TUIASOSOPO coming on, much to the horror of TEXANS fans.

What was expected to be a shoot-out in the desert sun between two gun-slinging QBs instead became a defensive battle in the mud.

And with CARR on the sidelines, the TEXANS D stepped up, producing a performance of historical magnitude. With AARON GLENN playing his final game and leading the way, HOUSTON's D time and again frustrated WARNER and his fleet of brilliant receivers and his Hall of Fame HB.

TUIASOSOPO also rose to the challenge, playing solid, steady football, and most importantly, always taking the sack rather than throwing the interception. He took a terrible beating by the RAMS D, who notched up 5 sacks (4 by LEONARD LITTLE alone!), and there were legitimate fears that ultra-green #3 QB WADE ROBBINS would be forced on.

But TUI stood tall, took the hits, and even managed to throw for a TD, an arcing 36 yarder to COREY BRADFORD. He managed to generate just enough offense for a 13-3 lead for the TEXANS.

The RAMS did get a TD on a broken play when FAULK took a pass and scampered off to the races for the 88 yard score. That made it 13-10 and it looked like HOUSTON could fold. But far from collapsing the TEXANS D whipped itself into ever greater heights of hysteria and passion and shut out the potent RAMS offense the rest of the way.

The TEXANS came close to icing it in the 4th, but a FG attempt bounced off the crossbar, and then HOLMES fell inches short of the first down which would have secured victory.

That meant last-gasp drama and WARNER took the RAMS to within 10 yards of FG range and the opportunity to tie it at 13-13. But no further. The TEXANS D held, forced the turnover on downs, and TUI took the knee to set off wild celebrations across the state of Texas and the nation as TEXANS fans revelled in a most unlikely victory.

DAVID CARR finished 2 of 4 for 19 yards before getting hurt. TUI completed 10 of 16 for 181 yards and a TD, a great performance, all things considered.

COREY BRADFORD was awarded the MVP trophy for his 5 receptions for 112 yards and a TD. PRIEST HOLMES got some tough yards, with 12 carries for 49 yards.

KURT WARNER completed 20 of 34 passes for 264 yards and a TD. MARSHALL FAULK ran 7 times for 4 yards (good job, TEXANS D!), although he did have 6 receptions for 113 yards and a score, that one broken play.

WARNER's magnificent WRs were shut down by AARON GLENN and SHAUN SPRINGs. HOLT had 3 catches for 29 yards (GLENN was on him). BRUCE had only 2 catches for 18 yards. What a performance from the TEXANS CBs, all the sweeter because it was GLENN's final game. He finished the leading tackler too, with 6 tackles, two for a loss. CORNELIUS GRIFFIN got a sack of WARNER.

27-21 Jammer 20 yard TD reception

The TEXANS cruised to a commanding 27-7 lead with new boys MOSS and HEAP both scoring TDs before a couple of RAVENS garbage-time scores made this closer than it should have been.

CARR won MVP for his 18 of 29 for 195 yards and 2 TDs performance. MOSS had 5 catches for 78 yards and a TD. PRIEST ran 10 times for 47 yards and a TD.

The real hero however was on D - DE GARY WALKER notching up 5 tackles and THREE sacks of the hapless KYLE BOLLER. In a good day for the defense, STUART SCHWEIGERT was the leading tackler with 6 and added a forced fumble, while TEDDY LEHMAN and DONOVAN DARIUS both had INTs.

BOLLER would conclude the day 17 of 32 for 253 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs. JAMAL LEWIS bludgeoned 14 times for 76 yards and a TD. GILBERT JAMMER had 5 catches for 76 yards and a TD, while CADE SPARKS added 3 grabs for 86 yards and the TD. SUGGS and WEAVER added sacks on D.

Not the most convincing or spectacular of victories, but enough to take the TEXANS through to the AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.
