As Stumpy said, the beard factor was pretty high in the late 60s to early 70s, a good fraction of group pictures will feature beards.

It should probably be mentioned that the man who put this theory forward was no great lover of genres such as folk, trad, 1960s psychedelia, or classic rock in general.

He was more of a "perfect pop" type of guy.
