    Special guitarr styles...

The twin-solo style of Iron Maiden!
Well, they pinched it from Thin Lizzy and have admitted as such, although they did take it to another level.

Steve Clark from Def Leppard. On Adrenalize, made after he died, he gets writing credit on some of the songs and you can hear the riffs that he used to come up with, whereas on later albums they're almost completely absent.

Lemmy - best rhythm guitar in the universe

      Captain Sensible - wailing solos

Greg Ginn - clear guitar cranking out leads and fills

Sorry if this a (very apt) gag about the way he plays the bass, but doesn't he play the bass?

'Styles'? Is this about freaky-looking guitars, in the shape of Cripsy Pancakes or made out of ironing boards; or special ways of playing ordinary guitars?

              The latter, Mumpo.

I suppose I've stretched it to include 'distinctive'.

Yes, he is indeed the bass player - no gag - the man can play - but his approach is far more effective than the standard rhythm player in the background.

That was awhile ago -- he took over guitar chores after Music For Pleasure - he has a unpretentious style that is pleasing to my ears.

Ah, I get it now. That was the "gag" I meant, really: that he uses his bass like a rhythm guitar. That having been his background before Hawkw--I'm sorry, you know all this.

No ones mentioned Bo yet. You can't have a thread like this without Bo. Who else makes it on the basis of both guitar sound and guitar style.

Carlos Alomar (although I'm only familiar with his Bowie and Iggy Pop stuff).

Aye, it will be. The last time that I saw The Damned was whilst this was happening...

Cool! Was that was Keegan's game for Liverpool before going to Hamburg? I'll have to dig through my old SHOOT!s.

1977 was one of the dullest years for rock in America - in 1978 a friend who went to American School of London sent my a UK punk tape he compiled (pistols, damned, stranglers) and I was hooked.

Steve Brooks from Floor/Torche for utterly ridiculous 'bomb string' induced heaviness. Saw Torche last week and I expect my internal organs to recover in about 2020.

Frankie Stubbs for doing whatever it is he does that makes Leatherface sound so very right.

i'm going to speak up in support of torche, because someone has to. i've managed to miss them at every opportunity, even though i've been to one of their gigs before i'd heard of them (went down to see baroness, who were EXCELLENT.)

kid, i have to ask, were you the type to go and see imbalance back in the day? completely excellent band.

Never saw them live but Spouting Rhetoric was a quality album.

Have you heard the new album by The Steal? Definitely the best British band playing that style of hardcore music at the moment. Saw Paint It Black in Kingston on Monday and Dan Yemin could barely stop wittering about how amazing the album is.
