Albums of the Year 2013
I didn't find a whole lot that grabbed me last year. Of The Quietus top 100 list, I'd heard exactly one record - the Nick Cave. So I went to their Spotify playlist of choice tracks and was either bored or horrified by the first 20 or so selections and gave up. Though it was quite a relief to feel that I hadn't missed out on anything.
My favourite releases last year were by Darkside, Nadine Shah, Vieux Farka Toure and Laura Veirs - don't think I saw any of those on any end of year lists at all. Oh, and the Goldfrapp album was gorgeous in places too, and Cate Le Bon's latest had some excellent songs now that I've got over her sounding like Nico, and now that I've accepted Nico's voice as something unique and not inherently annoying.
