Ah, you can't expect a big wheel, albeit a sentient one, to make much of a point.

It's right though, as the tories used to do it properly and buddy up with the paedophiles of the day.

Janet Daley had a go at linking the slave cult to old man Miliband. Don't know if anyone's stepped up to the plate with Ian Watkins yet.

Peaches Geldof might be in some shit then, for naming the ladies Mr. Watkins was getting up bad business with. Regardless of one's opinions on the provision of anonymity, some thought to the children involved should be involved - surely she of all people in the world should know that often a parent's identity is the only clue one has to work on.

          Thirty five years.

Detectives believe there are more victims and are continuing to investigate.

Actually 29 years plus 6 years out on license. He can apply for parole two thirds of the way through his sentence. So does that mean he has to do a minimum of 19 years, or a minimum of almost 22 years to get parole? Not that it matters - we'll probably never hear of him again.

Huge credit to the GCHQ code-crackers who defeated all the encryption which the sick scumbag used.

Both of the co-defendants were mothers of children, which suggests he was preying on groupies of the band who were young, probably single mothers. Those girls would be pretty f*cking vulnerable themselves, completely stupid, but vulnerable none the less. So, not only was he fucking up the lives of the kids he was abusing, he was fucking up the lives of their mothers too by preying on them so they could facilitate the realisation of his utterly f*cked up fantasies.

I'm probably entering Nam here, but do you think there is a point in a person like Watkin's life, where he could seek counselling to address the fantasies he was having in order to prevent what would eventually happen? Or is paedophilia a sexual preference for some people? I guess that's a bit like saying rape could be a sexual preference for some people, which of course is impossible because the basic rule of sex is that it needs to be consensual.

I've not read any reports - just this thread - and from its diluted and distilled summary I feel a sickening in my stomach and a weakening in my knees.

I don't even feel righteous anger. Just hopeless despondency.

                  Why would someone do this?

I think it is a reasonable point, steveeeee. I think that you have to believe in rehabilitation of anyone even if it is a vain belief. To rehabilitate someone like Watkins, you or, rather he has to address why he has these compulsions. It is easy for us to think that he is merely evil and just decided to carry out these acts but it doesn't work like that. Watkins has been exposed to something that has made him act like this and that has be discovered. It's never going to happen though, I reckon.

Whilst I wouldn't disagree entirely with that, it seems a very deterministic way of thinking to me: I'm not sure it is well enough understood to be stating that as a fact.

Apologies, BEAK, I have restated that in this thread in "World" as I thought it was a bigger issue than just music.

If you read the sentencing report (a word of advice - don't read it. Seriously), he's not a paedophile in the clinical sense.

There's a lot of assumptions there about the mothers being victims too that I think it's hard for us to make knowing what little we know. While he is the most culpable one here as reflected in the sentencing, personally I struggle to understand their particular crimes more.

I read somewhere that the amount of child porn they seized on his various hard drives totalled 28 terabytes of data. That's an utterly staggering, almost incomprehensible amount of material. All of the stuff I own on my computer which includes upwards of 70,000 photos, 20,000 music tracks and hundreds and hundreds of hours of movies and television would fit in under 3 terabytes.

Perhaps you should clarify that, by 'stuff', you don't mean 'child porn'. We realise but GCHQ may not

                                    Child porn music tracks?

Coming back to the size of his stash, it is also 5 times the size of the main drive that the entire South Wales Police Force uses and keep all its files, records and databases on.
