RIP. She was, indeed, great. The Spice of Life and Who Is This Bitch, Anyway? are fantastic albums.
I've always wondered about the 'Woman of the Ghetto' sample, because as far as I've ever been able to hear the line used by Blueboy ('remember me: I'm the whore who had your baby's eyes') doesn't actually appear in the (original album version of the) song. Is it in the fadeout, or on an extended version?
She was a superb singer, songwriter and interpreter of songs. All of the albums I have of hers (nine by my count) are great, but The Spice of Life was special. Her versions of "California Soul" and "Go Away Little Boy" are both superb, and her own "Liberation Conversation" is every bit the equal of "Woman Of the Ghetto".
