    Manchester City, applauding every decision

The current table is here , and still lacks results from the final two matches of the season.

Dunne's red card is nowhere near enough to put Fulham ahead of Man City by itself, and the other categories are highly subjective.

On that note, I found it interesting to see that Chelsea have the lowest number of "respect for the referee" points (194) in the entire Premier League, whereas Manchester United (212) are quite near the top (Fulham 220, Man City 219).

Blackburn are at the bottom of the table, and yet have accumulated 36 fewer points through sendings off and cautions than top of the table Tottenham. Blackburn's wooden spoon is due to lousy ratings on "respect for opponents", "respect for the referee" and "behaviour of officials".

Who rates clubs on categories such as 'respect for officials' and 'respect for opponents'? From reading this thread, it appears that it's not measured by sanctions accrued during games. Is there a match delegate that reports/ticks boxes on this?

No, I think that column is subtractive - each team would have 380 points if they'd not had a single card all season (they start from a theoretical maximum of 10 points per game). So Blackburn have had 36 points-worth (at 1 per yellow and 3 per red) MORE cards than Spurs.

Liverpool, naturally, "top" the table in terms of actual cards given out alone. It's gratifying to know that if ever fifth place falls out of reach on the pitch, we're nailed-on a UEFA Cup place through fair play, as long as we have a midfield that never tackle anyone.

That might be right, but the complete opacity of the system surely doesn't do much for its legitimacy.

Impact, I think it is match officials that rate those categories. I find the "behaviour of officials" one really odd, as it seems to allow for harkening back to the days of teams winning re-election on the basis of the quality of drinks provided to visiting directors.

Will city not suffer for their fans ripping up seats and fighting among themselves?

Only if they threw the broken seats at "officials", it would appear.

So, the draw for the other two Fair Play places was today, and they went to Germany (Hertha Berlin or Wolfsburg) and Denmark (FC Nordsjælland or FC København).

The fact that none of the three fortunate leagues have been quite able to determine which of their clubs "deserves" the place in question makes the entire thing look even more Mickey Mouse than it did before.
