First announcements of players who'll be let go by QPR: Jamie Mackie, James Perch and Jay Emmanuel Thomas are out the door for certain. No real suprises, JET has been a waste of space wherever he's played, and it was no different a LR. Mackie will be missed — as an inspiration, more than for his skills. But his body's aging, he spent about half the season injured. Perch is useful player, but probably worth more than we can afford for someone of his abilties. More worrying are the rumours that Jack Robinson and Nedum Onuoha will be leaving too. Robinson is a quality defender and wing-back. He's spent too long on the physios table — which could keep him out of the Prem — but on the pitch he's massive. I expect he'll go simply because we can't afford him. Any club in top eight with the money, could do far worse on the left side.
The real loss, however, would be our captain. Onuoha isn't the best CB in the league, but he's very far from the worse. Without the ball he's excellent, fast, covers space brilliantly, a superb tackler. With the ball ... a bit of an adventure sometimes! But, more important than that he's the type of player who makes those around him better. Darnell Furlong now owns our RB position, Joel Lynch looks like a proper footballer, not just a clogger. They've done that, in great part, because Nedum Onuoha plays between them. We've won 40% of our matches when Ned plays, that's getting into playoff territory. Supposedly he wants a move back up North. I hope it's just agent's negotiating talk, because he'd be very difficult to replace.
