If they'd introduced this next year (it comes in in 2021) Manchester United would just have have qualified for the final playoff round of it. 6th place ain't gonna be the same anymore, which is a bit of a pity for "the top six" (and, well, everyone else really).

I could see that formula changing. UEFA want to give Man U a route to the CL, surely? EL2 is meant to be a compensatory trophy for associations outside the top six or so therefore I can't see the point of throwing EPL6 in there. -
Rogin, I think you're mistaken. 6th only goes into EL 2 if a team below the Top 6 wins the FA Cup. Man U would have got the FA Cup winners' place in EL 1 and Wolves would have gone into EL 2. This is the EL 1 distribution from 2021:
