Anyway, Stoke are apparently confident that they have got the paperwork through in time to sign Peter Crouch and Cameron Jerome. Because these deals obviously had to be completed at the very last minute, it's not like Stoke have been negotiating for these players for weeks (Crouch) or months (Jerome).
Also, encouraging though the (presumed) signings of Palacios, Crouch and Jerome are, one other key priority was some cover/competition for wide midfield spots. There is no point having decent forwards if there are no midfielders capable of getting the ball to them. So Etherington and Pennant had better not lose form or get injured from now until Christmas.
