    Oh, is he still playing?!

Rivaldo is a youngster compared to his fellow Brazilian international Túlio (Túlio Maravilha) who at the age of 43 has just re-signed for Botafogo with whom he won the title in 1995. He claims to have scored 993 career goals and wants to score his 1000th with the club where he is regarded as an idol. Botafogo will be his 35th club.

Although Botafogo have been struggling for strikers all season, it's been made clear that he won't be reaching 1000 for the first team. He made his debut last week, rather incongruously, for their under 23 team and sadly remains on 993.

      Oh, is he still playing?!

According to Wikipedia, he's never played more than 88 games for a club before moving on.

And the 88 were for his first club Goias.

With Seedorf now apparently playing further forward, Botafogo shouldn't be short of the guile that comes with experience when he and Tulio get together.

They may be short of a bit of pace, however.

Unfortunately, Seedorf is currently injured but he's been a resounding success at Botafogo, as a leader on and off the pitch and in commercial terms. Just shows what you can do when you look after yourself.

One of OTF's favourites who appears not to be still playing is Adriano. He asked to be excused from training on Thursday at the weekend but was last seen that night drunkenly holding forth from the stage of a night club. He has decided to postpone his comeback until 2013 but it's unlikely that Flamengo will give him another chance. It is hard to resist drawing parallels with Garrincha and I'm afraid there'll be a similarly sad ending to this saga.

Neil Grayson was 48 last week. He celebrated by coming on as a substitute for Heanor Town against Nostell Miners Welfare in the Northern Counties East League.

Barnet's Edgar Davids sent off for fouling Accrington Stanley's James Beattie.

              It's like some alternate universe.

                            Are you serious Harry?

I also sent you a PM.

Good to know that Rivaldo, at the age of 40, is still going strong after his sojourn in Angola. He's signed up for Săo Caetano in Serie B and claims he will finish his career in 2014 at his first club Santa Cruz.

And Dida, who came back from AC Milan last year to play for Portuguesa, is still upwardly mobile at the age of 39. He's joined Wanderlei Luxemburgo at Gręmio.

Did I ever clarify that it wasn't really the Leo Fortune West?

The actual poster did do the fake Andy Townsend twitter account a few years ago (before everyone did them).

On a related matter, I remember going to Reading and the programme listing Watford's Gifton Noel-Williams as Leo Fortune-West.

twenty years after joining from seaham red star, stevie harper is leaving newcastle at the end of the year and is hoping to carry on somewhere (rumour is he will be replacing butland at birmingham).

strange one, the guy has attracted the odd bit of stick from the lunatic fringe of nufc fans for the supposed lack of ambition required to bench warm for the best part of two decades. there's perhaps a kernel of truth to this: he is (or was) a very capable goalkeeper, who could have gone further in the game. but then, he was at his local team for twenty years, managed over a hundred games, and was allegedly surprisingly well compensated as a way of keeping him around as second choice.

personally i always thought he seemed a good chap, and intelligent by footballer's standards. expect (and hope) to see him coaching somewhere once he finally hangs his gloves up.

Wait, football fans are now criticising a player for not having the ambition to leave their club? Doubtless they'd be aqually angry if he did leave, which at least makes a little more sense - how is Harper's personal ambition any of their business, are they his parents?

                                          Actually, are they his parents?

Better still, Jeffers got subbed with 10 minutes left the other night, and James Beattie came on to replace him.

the one i heard was that he'd be on the bench for a shay given xi in the first half, before switching to sub for a tim krul xi in the second.

Harper joined them in 1993 and didn't make his debut until 1998. That's 195 games in 20 years, which works out at nine or ten appearances per season.

Good luck to the bloke but it seems like a strange way to use up your career.
