Two specific things Sickened And Disgusted me about it: the first was the cricket match that ended season 2 (or was it 3)? We never got to find out who won. Or what the score was, or anything.
The second thing, connected to the first, was that all we learnt about the match was that Tom took a key catch, which was presumably intended to convey the completion of his journey from Irish republican socialist firebrand to 'acceptable' lackey West Brit sell-out.

I want cricket and socialism in my Sunday night programmes, damnit, or nothing.

And it's twee bollocks in the main, innit?

Well, yes, but by design. So you can't act all shocked.

Not you, I mean, but one.

I know, but these glimpses of cricket and socialism get my hopes up.

        (If no one else's)

Is cricket a socialist sport? Seems rather at the other end of the spectrum for some reason.

Not really, no. What sport is? Though, despite its posh reputation and roots, it has a bigger working-class and/or leftie following than is sometimes supposed

Well, there's that odd cooperative basketball game that someone here is involved in. Korfball, I think it's called. Chess is probably socialist, but it's not a sport. Nor is golf, but I like it. But it's far from socialist.

I'm the korfballer. (New Club launching in Shresbury April 13th, tell your friends!) But although the game was designed to promote on-field co-operation, I don't think it's a lefty sport.

No. But it is avowedly egalitarian. Historically, at grass roots level at least. The wankers in St Johns Wood & Brixton probably less so. And as for the racist tossers in Leeds 6...

Read CLR James now. The only sports book you ever need to read.

Excellent. I didn't remember that it was you.
