Best known as the son of violinist David McCallum (1897 - 1972)

Sampled by Dr Dre and DJ Shadow.

My mum was in the Illya Kuryakin fan club when she was young. He always seemed far far cooler in UNCLE than Vaughn.

        RIP.

I'm not sure that he was 'best known as the son of violinist David McCallum', tbh.

            Okay.

Irony is often lost in 'death' threads, tbf.

He'll always be "Dispersal" to me and I mean that as a compliment.

              RIP

Just William Russell and John Leyton left from the Great Escape.

Ah, I knew that Leyton was still going but didn't know about Russell, (TBF, Sorren wasn't a hugely prominent character).

I presume that you know that Leyton was also a "pop star" and had a big hit with this prime example of the weird death ditty genre:

I don't watch NCIS but it's impressive that he was still appearing in it as recently as this year. It sounds like he may latterly have been more of an impact sub rather than regular starter but even so.

From memory Sapphire & Steel was very strange, but also a bit crap. He could do personable with a weird edge so might have made a good Doctor.

I remember him best from Mosquito Squadron.

A lovely man who was great in pretty much everything he starred in.

Mama blameless was shocked and heartbroken to learn he'd passed, despite his advanced years.

Started as a generic thug in fifties British B movies.

We played men from UNCLE in the primary school playground. Thanks to McCallum we were keen to be the Russian. I don't know if any other actor in the history of Anglophone TV has achieved that so successfully (there was Checkov in original Star Trek, but he was well behind Spock, Scotty and co in our pecking order).

So basically he prevented WW3, well before Sylvester Stallone tried to start it.

                                Didn't know that.

But he just seemed to be a bit too pretty to be a thug. That and his rather fine hair.

Oh Sapphire and Steel is on ITVhub. I hope you've not cropped it.

No, I do remember it and enjoyed it
