    Derek Malcolm RIP

Derek Malcolm, film critic on The Guardian for many years died last week aged 91

As well as being a wonderful writer he was also the first presenter of "Film Club" on BBC2 in the 1980s - it would be impossible to replicate that nowadays, usually a double bill of two movies back to back starting about 10pm on a Saturday night

Complete list here, some classics and some I'd completely forgotten

He was brilliant. You could tell he’d watch films all day even if he wasn’t a critic. (Malcom was a bit early for me on that but Alex Cox carried on his mantle and I wouldn’t have seen half the random/brilliant films I have if it wasn’t for that.) A real RIP.

Missed this but yeah he was one of the good guys. He did a wonderful list of films for The Guardian which was very important in shaping my film taste
