    Servant of the People

The first three episodes have been uploaded to All4 (though I believe all are available subtitled on YouTube), and they at least satisfy interest enough that one wonders what tangent the series will take. It's evident that both Zelensky and his fictional doppelganger play heavily on the importance of social media (he rises to power through a viral rant and crowdfunding), as evident in the three weeks since the invasion, but the depiction of how his family and son react to the change in circumstances seems realistic, in contrast to the rather exaggerated fawning of the public and officials, though the latter owes perhaps to the expectations of political elites. Some elements come across as somewhat slapstick, but overall it tends to hang together.

Prompted by working on a Ukraine-related project at the moment, I've finally got round to taking a look at this (full series still up on All4). The first half dozen episodes are pretty decent, verging indeed on the slapstick but there are one or two genuine laugh out loud moments, as well as some nicely done more serious bits, and Zelenskyy is very good in the role. Doubt it'll go down as an all-time great work of televisual genius, but it's watchably entertaining and very interesting as a curio of modern history.
