What's that about then? Every so often, when I enter a URL into IE at work, I instead get a Google search for "%s". It used to come up with Craigslist at the top, but it's now around sixth, with Wikipedia at the top as it is for most things these days.

I think it's a bug in IE trying to search instead of returning a 404 like it should. The '%' is ignored in Google searches, so you're really only searching for the letter 's', which occurs on its own in not many places, but text-heavy sites such as Wikipedia and Craigslist should do it.
