The village of Unterseen (next to Interlaken) have decided to quite simply give the fingers to UEFA and do as they bloody please: install a giant screen and allow people to sell whatever they want and choose its own sponsors to cover the cost for the free event. In full breach of UEFA attempt to impose its regulations on a sovereign country.
They are not alone, the Swiss audiovisual copyright office, Suisa has also published its tariff to show games in public and has put a pithy comment on their website that authorisation to set up a giant screen and licensing is strictly down to them.
UEFA is rather pissed off at this and insist they deliver the license to show Euro 2008 games. The license is free for non commercial events but there are very restrictive conditions in term of selling non-official sponsor products.
UEFA, as it stands, does not have much of a leg to stand on and legal experts say they are in no position to sue public events organisers who do not meet their conditions.
